Top Gluten-Free Flours for Baking and Cooking

Favorite Gluten Free Flour #glutenfreerecipes www.healthygffamily.comIn addition to “What’s our favorite pasta?” and “What’s our favorite bread?”, one of the questions I’m asked most often is: what gluten-free flour do we love? Over the past decade, since my son was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2010, we’ve learned a lot about gluten-free cooking and baking. We have favorite recipes and products, but one pantry staple we always keep on hand is an all-purpose gluten-free flour. If you’ve followed us for a while, you probably already know the answer: GFJules All Purpose Flour. Here’s why we love it — and full disclosure, we are a brand affiliate. There’s a discount code near the end of this post.

Background

My son was diagnosed with celiac disease in the spring of 2010, just months before he started kindergarten.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition in which the body reacts to any amount of gluten — the protein found in wheat, barley and rye — by damaging the small intestine and impairing nutrient absorption. The only effective treatment is a strict gluten-free diet.

Back in 2010, awareness of celiac disease and gluten-free options was far more limited than it is today. My son was only five, a picky little foodie whose favorite food was pasta, and we were suddenly navigating how to maintain family food traditions while keeping him safe.

One family ritual that immediately came to mind was Cookie Baking Day — a long-standing holiday tradition where we spend a day baking cookies with family and friends. To keep that tradition, we needed an all-purpose gluten-free flour that worked in our favorite recipes.

With the holidays in our minds, we began testing gluten-free flours that spring and summer, determined to find a blend that would let us recreate family favorites without constant recipe tinkering.

GFJules Flour

Early in our search we discovered Jules Shepard and her book, The First Year Celiac, which explained celiac disease in plain language and included helpful guidance for living gluten-free. Jules also shared her experiences developing a gluten-free flour blend. We tried it, and it quickly became a staple in our kitchen.

GFJules Flour is an all-purpose gluten-free flour that lets us use family recipes as written simply by substituting this blend for wheat flour. Time and again, baked goods and everyday recipes made with GFJules turned out reliably well.

It’s really that simple: the right flour makes gluten-free baking much easier and more predictable.
