5 Pool Bag Essentials You Should Never Forget

This time of year I’m squeezing in every possible pool day. Whether it’s a relaxed afternoon with family or a bachelorette weekend in Charleston with friends, there are five pool bag essentials I won’t leave home without this summer.

The Bag

First things first: a great pool bag. It needs to hold sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks, and yes—wine—while complementing your outfit. I prefer a stylish option that’s also practical. An insulated straw bag with playful pom details looks cute and functions like a portable cooler, keeping drinks and snacks cold while you’re on the go. Choose one roomy enough for your essentials, with pockets for easy organization and a durable lining that wipes clean.

Fruit Pool Floats

They might not fit inside your bag, but fruit-shaped pool floats are a must for the ultimate pool day vibe. There’s nothing better than easing onto a float and soaking up the sun. The fruit float trend caught on for good reason—shapes like lemon and watermelon add a cheerful, photo-ready touch. Look for sturdy, comfortable floats that hold their shape and don’t require a blow-up pump for quick enjoyment.

Portable Frozen Cocktail Maker

Frozen cocktails change the whole pool experience. For trips where a blender isn’t practical, a freezable, handheld cocktail maker is ideal. These durable, glass-free containers turn a cocktail mix into a slushy with minimal effort—freeze the mix for a few hours, squeeze the container, and serve. They’re great for frosè, frozen Aperol spritzes, and other fruity favorites, delivering poolside cocktails without hauling bulky equipment.

Towel / Blanket

A versatile towel or lightweight blanket is essential. I love a round tie-dye blanket with fringe—lightweight, easy to carry, and stylish enough for poolside lounging or a picnic after the season ends. Look for material that dries quickly, packs down small, and resists sand and chlorine. A multi-use piece like this makes transitions from pool to picnic effortless.

Watermelon Slicer

Watermelon is my favorite pool snack—crisp, cool, and refreshing on a hot day. A simple, reliable watermelon slicer makes serving watermelon poolside fast and neat. It’s a small tool that transforms a whole fruit into perfectly portioned slices without the mess, so you can enjoy more time relaxing and less time prepping.
