Why this Caprese Tortellini Pasta Salad works
- Simple ingredient list — just eight items
- Quick to make and ideal for Summer gatherings
- Perfect way to use fresh tomatoes and basil
- Bright, fresh flavors with minimal effort

The idea began when I saw tortellini skewers at a beach gathering — they were fun and portable. For an easier, no-assembly option I started tossing all the components in a bowl with olive oil, and the result quickly became a favorite at parties and an easy lunch to enjoy for several days.
Ingredients Needed for the Caprese Tortellini Salad

| Cheese Tortellini – I used a tri-color cheese tortellini, but any variety works.
Cherry Tomatoes – Sweet cherry or grape tomatoes are perfect; garden tomatoes are a great use for this recipe. Mozzarella Cheese Balls – Use pearl-size or snack mozzarella; if you only find a log, cut it into bite-sized pieces. Fresh Basil – Fresh basil is essential for authentic caprese flavor; it adds aroma and brightness. Olive Oil – A good drizzle helps coat the ingredients and brings the flavors together. Salt, Pepper & Red Pepper Flakes – A simple dash of each seasons the salad. Balsamic Glaze – A finishing drizzle of balsamic glaze adds a sweet-tangy punch. |

How to make this easy Caprese Tortellini Salad
Step 1: Cook the tortellini. Follow package directions — many cheese tortellini cook in 2–3 minutes. Drain and rinse with cool water so the pasta stops cooking and cools quickly.

Step 2: Combine the ingredients. In a large bowl add the cooled tortellini, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and sliced or torn basil. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes if you like heat. Drizzle with olive oil and toss gently to combine.
Note: Herb scissors make quick work of slicing basil into even pieces.

Step 3: Chill. Cover and refrigerate until serving time so flavors meld and the salad is nicely chilled.
Step 4: Finish with balsamic glaze. Right before serving, drizzle balsamic glaze over the salad and offer extra glaze on the side for individuals to add to their portion. Serve and enjoy.
Additions & Substitutions
- Swap the tortellini for any flavor you prefer.
- Add more vegetables — diced bell peppers, cucumber, or red onion would work well.
- Include protein — chopped salami, diced grilled chicken, or prosciutto are great additions.

Storage
Store the salad covered in the refrigerator. For best texture and flavor, enjoy within three days.
