A typical morning at my house starts early. I’m an early riser, so I get up before everyone else, brew a cup of coffee and grab something quick to eat. Usually it’s a piece of fruit, and sometimes I make a smoothie when I’m feeling adventurous. I want my breakfast to be fast, simple, filling and tasty—after all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
For years I sprinkled sugar on grapefruit because I assumed it needed it. Recently I tried a Sweet Scarletts Texas Red Grapefruit without sugar and was surprised: it was naturally sweet enough on its own. If grapefruit hasn’t been your favorite, try a Sweet Scarletts grapefruit—you might be pleasantly surprised by how mild and sweet it tastes.

I bought a 5 lb bag of Sweet Scarletts at my local Walmart and was pleased with the price—especially with produce costs rising. I paid $3.47 for the bag, which felt like a great value.
Sweet Scarletts grapefruit are juicy, bright and naturally sweet. They’re also very photogenic if you enjoy sharing breakfast photos. Beyond the taste, they’re nutritious: half a Sweet Scarletts grapefruit provides 100% of your daily Vitamin C and has only about 60 calories, making it a smart choice for anyone who wants a healthy yet tasty start to the day.

Sweet Scarletts grapefruit are grown in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, where warm days and cool nights help produce a naturally sweet Texas Red grapefruit.
Although I enjoy them plain, I wanted to put them into a breakfast recipe. I made a Grapefruit Smoothie Bowl—my first smoothie bowl—and used Sweet Scarletts Texas Red Grapefruit. The result was creamy, naturally sweet and felt almost indulgent despite being healthy.

The smoothie bowl is very simple to make and takes only a few minutes. For the base I used one Sweet Scarletts Texas Red Grapefruit (peeled and sectioned), one banana to thicken, one cup of chopped pineapple and one cup of plain or vanilla Greek yogurt. The blend turns into a creamy, peach-colored mixture. I didn’t add any extra sugar—Sweet Scarletts provides plenty of natural sweetness.
Top the bowl with whatever you like. I added diced pineapple, fresh blueberries, chia seeds, buckwheat, hemp seeds and unsweetened coconut flakes, but nuts, oats or other fruit work equally well. After arranging the toppings I gave everything a quick swirl and dug in—this made a satisfying, healthy breakfast that I’ll definitely make again.

Have you tried Sweet Scarletts Texas Red Grapefruit? If not, give one a try—you may find it’s sweeter and more enjoyable than you remember.
